If it's the tensioner you want to change it out or you can damage the motor. Last one I got for a 700 vtwin wasn't expensive and no big deal to change. Just remember to tie off the chain or it comes off the bottom gear.

Cam chain tensioner is VERY easy to replace. Just make sure to do it before the chain either jumps time or breaks. Then you'll be in for a tear down.

Any Honda shop should have them in stock, it's a common problem. Cheap and easy to fix.

They must be thinking internal parts. The tensioner goes on with two bolts. The only "trick" to it is do not remove the stamped metal part that will be in the hole the center lock bolt goes in until the other two bolts are tightened. When you pul it out the tensioner spring will snap in and hit the plastic guide that holds the chain. Then put the center bolt in and call it done.

8hrs? I know quads can be a little more involved but I pulled the motor on my 700 shadow, benched it, changed the tensioner and lifters, reinstalled it back in the bike, and road tested it in 6 hrs. I do find bikes easier to work on.
